Lem has died.

Just shocking.
I have written a poem.
It is in german, some of you maybe understand it.

Nun gingst du zu den Sternen
dorthin, wo deine Helden fuhren.
Wir bleiben, die wir von dir lernen,
und dir stete Treue schwuren.

Ein großer Geist, er ging dahin
die Welt sich grau in Trauer hüllt.
So scharf sehend war dein Sinn.
Dein Antlitz nun unsterblich im Himmelsbild.

Doch der Erden Dickicht zu durchstreifen
bist du am Ende müd geworden.
Legst den Körper, den alten und steifen
Zur Ruhe, die Brust voll tausend Orden.

Die Welten, die so schillernd bunt
in deinem Kopf, für immer entschlafen.
Dein Körper, nicht mehr ganz gesund.
Und verließ dich lieben, braven.

Nun gingst du fort.
Wohin, kann niemand sagen.
Nun siehst du ihn, den letzten Ort.
Doch keiner soll weinen oder klagen.

Wir sehen dich in Avalon.
Wo all die alten Helden wohnen.
Irgendwann wartest du schon
wenn wir dann durch die Pforte kommen.  :-/

One of the best authors of the XX century, and certainly my very favourite.

Not just  an author, but a great mind that questioned, challenged, and transformed ours (and still does).

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of Stanislaw Lem, a man whose writings had an incredible influence on my life. A very big loss... Thanks for being a part of our lives Lem. We will all miss you greatly.

He was an astonishing mind. As one of the most original writers of the 20th century, he deserve a Nobel Prize but...
Alas! Science fiction writers do not win Nobel Prizes.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family.

What can be said?  He was a great writer, the best, one other writers ought to emulate.  He delivered some of the wittiest commentary on politics and the human condition ever.  He's still with us because of his words.  It's a shame few people even know of him.  Ciao, Lem. Peace on Earth.
