Finnish tv just broadcasted Ikaria XB1. The novel Magellan nebula has not been translated into Finnish. Question:  is this czechoslovak sci-fi film actually based on Lem´S novel?

It has been shown in Vremja kultura channel in Russia in the last couple of years, I have seen the trailer (my Russian is quite elementary, but understood it).

Would appreciate even full Russian copy, so far.

This seems to be the first and little known film adaptation of Solaris.

Is it available from anywhere, in any language??

And soon even closer...planning a pilgrimage 8-)

Wasn´t it so that SL used to escape hay fever by going to Zakopane? Well, I am planning to go wanderig in the Tatra mountins (have once driven over them, in the middle of the night, from Dresden to Prague).
I have experience from the Bavarian alps so shouldn´t be too difficult 8-)

Folks, if you share the same hobby and are familiar with Tatra mountains please contact me. Planning trip with my wife perhaps in April-May - is that a good point of time for that?

So perhaps we could organize a real pilgrimage tour

Hello, I am back. Just returned from a week´s holidays in Berlin and brought back a load of SL`s books in German...looking for better translations. In the technical museum in Berlin I did run across with the works of computer inventor Zuse, who also is the inventor of the digital universe cosmology (Wollfram´s  A new kind of science is derived from that). Isn´t this analoguous to the interaction between the Solaris Sea and humans...the discussion about inperfect god playing with his powers in the end of the novel?

As far as I remember word-ending "-szcze" is an archaic remaining - it comes out of pre-slavic language, which is not existing any more, but some words are in use in todays slavic languages. "-szcze" means, that something is bigger than usual - SIEDLISKO - settlement, but SIEDLISZCZE - big settlement. I don't think this has any connotation to puppy .

The last funny is ZERWIŚRUBA (what Trurl says about Klapaucjusz) made of two words - ZERWać (to break down) and ŚRUBA (screw).

Coincidentally, in Finnish "korva" means "ear". This is the only Finnish-Polish language joke I know - a Finnish tourist on the street in Krakow sees a beautiful lady drop an earring, and not knowing any languages he helpfully points at her head and says "korva!"  - and of course gets hospitalized...

Once I was attending a conference in the US and every time I passed a certain security guard he read my tag and smiled very much. I was confused, before I learned the american slang word that can be confused with my first name + r.
After learning this I started to say passing the guard:  "Hello again, the big one is here".

Fellows, I think this question has been asked without significant output under other topics here, but repetitio mater studiorum est, so are there any hidden meanings buried in the names of Solaris characters?

Because of my medical background I know that Sartorius in fact is the body´s longest muscle;  a muscle in the thigh that helps to rotate the leg into the sitting position assumed by a tailor; the longest muscle in the human body. In Finnish it is called the tailor´s muscle.

Is there some hidden implicit connotation for Polsih-speakers. At least the Russians have a saying "as heavy a drinker as a tailor" but probably it is not this...

STP is also an US brand for automobile chemicals, fuel additives etc, especially to help the start up. Perhaps Prix uses them to start his engine...
