Hello all Lem-fans
About 20 years ago I read a book with short stories which still keep my brain busy. Can't find the book anymore, can't remember its title. The stories were
- about the fight of an astronaut against a fly in his spacecraft
- washingmachines taking over the world
- men and women suddently beeing separated and living in their own paralell worlds.
All help very much appreciated!

Probably "The Star Diaries". For more ensurance, check here (http://www.lem.pl/cyberiadinfo/english/dziela/dzienniki/dziennikipl.htm).

The fly sounds like the Pirx tale named "The Test". For the washing machines, I think the title was "The Further Reminiscences of Ijon Tichy V: The Washing Machine Tragedy". I don't recognize the last story. What language did you read them in?
-
That's what I meant, Ion Tichy -> Star Diaries.
-
Yes, it is 'Test'. Even found the book in my library. Great, thanks to you all!

Ahh, the evidence suggests that Thomas reads German. Is the third story Invasion from Aldebaran? It's never been translated to English, so I haven't read it.
-
Yes, I read in German, but not exclusively.
Thirst story is 'Albatros'.
'Aldebran' is no. 6
Best wishes

Am interested in the story about the parallel worlds of women and men. Does anybody know its title? Is it as well part of the Star diaries?
-
Oops, I meant: is Invasion from Aldebaran the third of the stories that you described originally (that is, the one with parallel worlds).
-
sorry, disagree, its definitly not the 3, but the 6 story, and it doesn't deal in this paralell world thing, whehre suddently all men are missing on one planet, and all women on the other...
bye

Thanks. I guess it remains a mystery, then.
(And for those of you who wonder what I've been going on about, Test is supposed to contain: "Test" and "Die Waschmaschinentragödie", which had been mentioned in the beginning; some other Pirx tales ("Albatros", "Terminus", and "Der bedingte Reflex"); "Von der Rechenmaschine, die mit dem Drachen kämpfte", whose English equivalent is in Mortal Engines...as well as "Invasion vom Aldebaran".)

- men and women suddently beeing separated and living in their own paralell worlds ? that's definitely not Lem's!

Do you recognize it from somewhere?
