Tytuł: Letter to Socrates

As a newbie who just signed in about 10 mins ago, it's perhaps a bit bold to direct myself personally to you Socrates, but let me explain why.

I just finished reading Solaris -- in English  :'(

Soderbergh's 'adaptation' -which I saw first- gave me the idea that the novel was a lot more daring. It's a cruel irony to find out here that the English translation doesn't get the real drift of the original. As I don't know any Polish, it seems I'm bound to my own simulacra now - which was what drew me to Solaris; the simulacra of memory, to be more precise.

My question to you is the following. Can you explain to me what get's lost in the translation from Polish to English? And would you be so kind as to post a small fragment of your translation? If this is for some reason impossible I'd understand. However, it would mean a great deal to me. Thank you

Hey Izzy,
no problem; send me your email and I'll send you a chapter or two.
Cheers, Socrates
