http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/physics/BlackHole.html for those who want to know more.  I dropped out of 4th year astronomy after realizing I had no clue what was going on in class, but after working for 2 years at the University astronomy office as a tour guide and research assistant.  Bloody physics was too hard, and the cold winter months spent photographing insignificant specs of light really got to me after a while.  But the moon was, and still is, cool as hell.  If anyone has a telescope, check it out; if no telescope, a simple pair of binoculars will do.  Jupiter is out there as well, I think, if you live in the northern hemisphere - but you should have at least a 40cm to actually make something out (like the  Red Spot) and be some distance away from a major city (being in Toronto did not help in my case; if you're taking a 1.5 minute exposure of a 9th magnitude variable star, and you have light pollution everywhere, the reduction quality of your research is of, well, dubious scientific value)
Cheers, Socrates

Cytuj
(As for the Hawking radiation, I heard recently that he himself  is opposing his own idea nowadays, but I don't know why).

I finally looked it up. It looks like what he changed his mind about was whether information was lost forever inside a black hole. Apparently, destroying information contradicted quantum theory in some way, and he now thinks that quantum uncertainty at the event horizon will eventually let the information out.
(Of course, since I learned this from articles intended for nonspecialists, it was probably completely misrepresented, as such things usually are...)

Here`s one more page where you can learn something about black holes ,universe etc.
  It is http://www.hawking.org.uk/lectures/index.html
There you can get the things better than on ,http://http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/physics/BlackHole.html
or just prepare yourself for reading the information in it.
