(As for the Hawking radiation, I heard recently that he himself is opposing his own idea nowadays, but I don't know why).
I finally looked it up. It looks like what he changed his mind about was whether information was lost forever inside a black hole. Apparently, destroying information contradicted quantum theory in some way, and he now thinks that quantum uncertainty at the event horizon will eventually let the information out.
(Of course, since I learned this from articles intended for nonspecialists, it was probably completely misrepresented, as such things usually are...)
