In russian edition of "Filozofia przipadku" I found very strange statement about novel "The name of the rose" by U.Eco. When Lem analyses hero's reasoning he note, that it's similar with Wittgenshtein theory appeared half of centure later. But action take place in 14 century!  

This mistake is repeated later.

Do you know is it Lem's mistake?May be, it's only misprint?

I have second polish edition of "Filozofia Przypadku" right in front of me and it says:

"(...)dokładnie to powiedział Ludwig Wittgenstein, co prawda pięćset lat później(...)"

which is:
"(...)exactly that said Ludwig Wittgenstein, admittedly five hundred years later(...)"

Thank you, Luca.Then it must be publisher's mistake. Russian editions of Lem's scientific works contain a lot  of mistakes. It's a pitty.

It's fascinating that a proffesional translator could have taken 'five hundred' for 'fifty'... On the other hand, Polish words 'piecdziesiat' and 'piecset' are quite similar, so who knows...

It's funny that this translator is a doctor of philosophy. I don't understand if he has forgotten when Wittgenstein lived. But he has.

Isn't 20 in russian "dwacet"?  hence 50 would be "piecset"?  Hence the mistake?

No, 50 in russian is "piedziesiat" , "piecset" is 500.

Well, I was right all the way up to 30...it's dwacet, tricet, then sorok, then piadesat...and yes, 500 is pietset...I thought the "number+set" would continue all the way to a hundred...it's been a long time since I spoke a human language (chinese is getting to me.  The word for "grass" and the equivalent of "bled" in chinese is for all intents and purposes the same...).
