how to find which process in causing file dump
« dnia: Września 22, 2005, 02:54:26 pm »
Hi,

In my system I have solaris 9 , wtmpx gets big very frequently and does not list any o/p of last command.
i used strings wtmpx, it gives only three entries and these r repeated for eac second.
i tries to find out if there is any such process running with grepping on the either of the entries of the wtmpx...but no luck.
So can we find out some whay who is sending o/p to wtmpx.

Hi suri,

Try to read at least a few threads on this forum and you will realize that it's not a forum on Solaris Operating System...

Sorry,

Hey Suri,
try entering the BIOS and look for the OS setup system modem cable hookup schedule.  After reformating that partition, reboot your PC, take it to the last floor of the highiest building in your city, and throw it out the window.  If that doesn't help it, I don't know what will.  Wish you all the best of luck,
Cheers, Socrates

In the spirit of Socrates' post, I offer:
ln -sf /dev/null /var/adm/wtmpx
to keep it nice and small!
Of course there's always:
cd /; rm -rf /var/adm/wtmpx *
which is a good all-purpose way
to clean things out!

(Ah, if I could train everybody to push variations
of that second one on our visitors, we could have some
good times around here...)

Now don't worry, I know how to use rm perfectly well, maybe we can perform some severe deletions on the occasion ::) As for other associates, I'm sure Deckard and dzi are far more specialized than me.

No fear then ::)

Am I learning that the literature of Lem attracts a very specific sort of person?!

Oh, wait. I guess I already knew this. You are all having a lively discussion about DNA, after all.
